Take over an existing group

A group belongs to a place in the organisation. That decides who may administer it and who may see it — never who is in it.

We have to be made an admin first

Real WhatsApp groups exist only on the consumer protocol, through a linked device, and only an admin can add or remove anybody. Joining by link makes us an ordinary member; a coordinator has to promote the operator number by hand, once. Until then we can read the group and can change nothing in it.

What reading a group does not do

It does not add anybody, remove anybody or send anything. The next screen is a preview, exactly as the spreadsheet import has one, and nothing is written until you have seen it.

Every centre’s groups are shaped differently, nobody knows who is in which group, and somebody who leaves Isha stays in eleven of them forever. Absorbing a group turns it from a thing one person remembers into a record a second coordinator can use.

It is also how a centre stops being punished for having done the work by hand for four years.
